Zhou Guanyu
Early Life

Born in Shanghai on 30 May 1999, Zhou Guanyu's journey into motorsport began at the tender age of eight when he first stepped into a kart. His early karting years were spent in China before a pivotal move in 2012 saw the thirteen-year-old relocate to Sheffield, England, to pursue international karting competition—a decision that would prove crucial in launching his path toward Formula One.
Junior Career
Zhou's transition from karting to junior formulae came in 2014, marking the beginning of a methodical climb through motorsport's developmental ladder. His breakthrough season came in 2015 when he finished as runner-up in the Italian F4 Championship, establishing himself as a talent to watch.
From 2016 to 2018, Zhou competed in the demanding FIA Formula 3 European Championship across three seasons, honing his craft against some of Europe's finest young drivers. During this period, he also gained valuable experience in the electric racing sphere, serving as a development driver for Formula E's Techeetah team in 2017-18.
The next phase of Zhou's development saw him graduate to the FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2019 with Virtuosi Racing. After three seasons of steady progress, he achieved his strongest F2 campaign in 2021, finishing third in the championship—a result that would prove instrumental in securing his Formula One opportunity.
Racing Career
Zhou's Formula One journey is defined by several significant milestones, beginning with his historic debut in 2022 as the first-ever Chinese driver to compete in the sport's premier category. Joining Alfa Romeo alongside veteran Valtteri Bottas, Zhou made an immediate impact by scoring his first career point at the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix.
His 2023 campaign with Alfa Romeo saw consistent point-scoring performances, with notable finishes in Australia, Spain, and Qatar demonstrating his growing confidence at the highest level. Zhou remained with the team through its 2024 rebrand to Sauber, where he delivered the squad's sole points finish of the season at the Qatar Grand Prix with the challenging C44 car.
Across his three-season Formula One career from 2022 to 2024, Zhou accumulated sixteen championship points and recorded two fastest laps, establishing himself as a competent midfielder before transitioning to a reserve driver role with Cadillac Formula 1 Team in 2026.
Throughout his junior career, Zhou benefited from academy programs with two major Formula One teams—first as a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy from 2014 to 2018, then joining the Alpine Academy from 2019 to 2021. His Alpine association included valuable test driver roles with both Renault (2020) and Alpine (2021), providing crucial preparation for his eventual race debut.
